Privacy Policy

Respite is a migraine diary for iPhone, published by MPC Digital Ltd. This policy explains what the app stores, what leaves your device, and what you can do about it.

Last updated: 7 September 2026

The short version. Your migraine record — attacks, symptoms, triggers, medications, doses and anything Respite reads from the Health app — is stored on your iPhone and is never uploaded to us or to anyone else. There is no account and no cloud sync. We never sell, license or share your health data, including with pharmaceutical companies or researchers.

Nothing at all leaves your device: Respite has no analytics, no tracking and no in-app purchases. There is no copy of anything for us — or anyone — to collect.

1. Who we are

Respite is developed and published by MPC Digital Ltd, London, United Kingdom. For anything covered by this policy, contact hello@mpcdigital.co.uk.

Because your data never reaches us, we do not hold, process or have any means of accessing it. Respite is a free app with no analytics and no in-app purchases, so there is no personal data for which we act as controller beyond the correspondence you choose to send us by email.

2. What Respite stores on your device

Everything you enter is written to on-device storage on your iPhone. This includes:

This data is special-category health data under UK GDPR (Article 9). Keeping it exclusively on your device, under your control, is the central design decision in Respite.

Apple Health (optional)

If you use the optional views that show what else you had logged on your attack days, Respite asks permission to read two categories from the Health app: Sleep Analysis and Cycle Tracking. This is used only to show, on your device, when those were recorded alongside your attacks.

What Respite does not collect at all

3. What leaves your device: nothing

Respite collects no data. It has no analytics, no tracking, no advertising identifier and no in-app purchases. It sends no usage events, no crash reports and no diagnostics to us or to any third party. There is no Respite server for anything to be sent to.

This is enforced in the app's source code, not merely by policy: the app links no analytics or advertising SDK, and no payment or subscription service, of any kind.

The only company involved at all is Apple, and only in its normal role as the App Store: Apple knows you downloaded a free app, in the same way it does for any app. Apple never receives your migraine record, which stays on your device. Apple's own privacy policy governs that relationship.

We do not sell, rent, license or otherwise make available any of your data to advertisers, data brokers, pharmaceutical companies, insurers, employers or researchers — and because we never receive it, we could not do so even if we wanted to. We do not use health or fitness data for advertising, marketing or data-mining purposes of any kind.

4. Notifications

Notifications are optional and are scheduled locally on your device. Respite has no push server, so no notification content is ever transmitted. If you allow notifications, you may receive an occasional weekly summary or a reminder before an appointment you recorded. You can turn any of these off in the app or in iOS Settings.

5. Exports and backups

The doctor-report PDF and the encrypted backup file are generated on your device, at your request. Respite then hands the file to the standard iOS share sheet, and it goes wherever you send it — AirDrop, Files, Mail, a printer, or an app of your choosing. Respite does not upload these files anywhere, and does not keep a copy beyond the one on your device.

Once you share a file, its privacy depends on where you sent it. No personal health information is stored in iCloud by Respite.

6. Retention and deletion

7. Legal basis for processing (UK GDPR)

8. Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and port your personal data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent. In Respite these rights are exercised directly in the app:

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please contact us first at hello@mpcdigital.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK supervisory authority, at ico.org.uk.

9. International transfers

Your record does not leave your device, so there is no international transfer of your data. Respite uses no overseas analytics, hosting or payment providers.

10. Children

Respite is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly process data from them.

11. Medical disclaimer

Respite is a personal record-keeping app. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, prediction or treatment. Trends, counts and per-dose summaries are descriptive read-backs of what you entered, and nothing more. Always speak to a qualified healthcare professional about your symptoms, your medication and any decision about your care.

12. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. If a change materially affects what leaves your device, we will say so in the app before it takes effect.
